(1) If you removed it, install the gimbal [54] on the ballscrew nut [53]:
(a)
Apply grease, D00633 to the inside and outside mating surfaces of the gimbal bushings
[45].

(b) Apply grease, D00633 to the outside surfaces of the gimbal bushings [45].

(c) Put the gimbal [54] in its location on the ballscrew nut [53].
(d) Install the gimbal bushings [45] through the gimbal [54] on the ballscrew nut [53].
(e) Install the bolts [52], washers [51] and collars [50] to attach the gimbal bushings [45] to the
gimbal [54].

(2) Connect the ballscrew assembly [42] to the yoke [44] on the transmission [43]:
(a) Turn the ballscrew nut [53] until it is at the forward end of the ballscrew assembly [42].
(b) Apply a layer of grease, D00633 to the mating surfaces of the yoke [44] and the ballscrew
assembly [42].
(c) Put the ballscrew assembly [42] into the yoke [44].
(d) Apply a layer of grease, D00633 to the shank and threads of the bolts [56].
(e) Install the bolts [56], washers [57], washers [58] and nuts [59] to attach the ballscrew
assembly [42] to the yoke [44].
(f) Make sure the ballscrew assembly [42] is installed correctly in the yoke [44]:
1) Turn the transmission [43] until the nut [61] on the U-joint [60] is down.
2) Turn the ballscrew nut [53] until the upstop is 1808 from the upstop [62] on the yoke [44].
3) If the ball returns on the ballscrew nut [53] are not on the outboard side, change the
position of the ballscrew assembly [42]:
a) Remove the nuts [59], washers [58], washers [57] and bolts [56] that attach the
ballscrew assembly [42] to the yoke [44].
b) Turn the ballscrew assembly [42] 1808 in the yoke [44].
c) Install the bolts [56], washers [57], washers [58] and nuts [59].
(g) Tighten the nuts [59].

(3) Connect the ballscrew assembly [42] with the gimbal [54] to the carriage [41]:
(a) Move the gimbal [54] aft on the ballscrew assembly [42] until it is at the downstop.
(b) On transmission No. 2, make sure the ball returns on the ballscrew nut [53] are on the
outboard side.
(c) On transmission No. 7, make sure the ball returns on the ballscrew nut [53] are on the
inboard side.

(d) Apply grease, D00633 to the inside and outside surfaces of the carriage bushing [49] and
carriage bushing [55].

(e) Apply grease, D00633 to the outside surfaces of the carriage bushing [49] and carriage
bushing [55].

(f) Lift the outboard flap until the carriage [41] aligns with the gimbal [54].

(g) Install the carriage bushing [49] and carriage bushing [55] to attach the gimbal [54] to the
carriage [41].
(h) Install the bolts [46], washers [47] and nuts [48] to hold the carriage bushing [49] and
carriage bushing [55] in the carriage [41].
(i) Tighten the nuts [48] to 65-75 pound-inches (7.4-8.4 newton-meters) more than the run on
torque.

(4) Lubricate the transmission [43], ballscrew assembly [42] and gimbal [54]. To lubricate them, do
