(2) If it is not installed, install the aft link fitting assembly [47] on the carriage assembly [1]:
(a) Apply sealant, A00247 to the mating surfaces of the shims [46].
(b) Put the shims [46] in their location between the aft link fitting assembly [47] and the carriage
assembly [1].
NOTE: Use the same thickness of shims that you removed. The maximum total thickness
of the shims [46] is 0.50 inch (12.7 mm). The minimum total thickness of the shims
[46] is 0.00 inch (0.0 mm).
(c) Apply compound, C00913 to the shank and threads of the bolts [39].
(d) Install the bolts [39], washers [40] and nuts [41] to attach the aft link fitting assembly [47] to
the carriage assembly [1].

(3) Install the outboard carriage assembly [1] on the main flap [2]:
(a) Put the carriage assembly [1] in its location on the main flap [2], with the forward spindle on
the main flap [2] through the forward bearing [29].
(b) Install the washer [31] and nut [30] that attach the forward end of the carriage assembly [1]
to the main flap [2].
(c) Tighten the nut [30] to 500-700 pound-inches (56.5-79.0 newton-meters).
(d) Install the pin [32] in the nut [30].
(e) Install the aft link assembly [35] on the main flap [2] and the aft link fitting [48]:
1) Put the aft link assembly [35] in its position on the main flap [2].
NOTE: Make sure the lubrication fittings on the aft link assembly [35] are on the aft
side.
2) Install the bolt [48], washer [49], bushing [50], washer [51] and nut [52] that attach the aft
link assembly [35] to the aft link fitting assembly [47].
3) Install the pin [53] in the nut [52].
4) Install the washer [37] and nut [36] that attach the aft link assembly [35] to the main flap
[2].
5) Tighten the nut [36] to 1000-1300 pound-inches (113.0-146.8 newton-meters).
6) Install the pin [38] in the nut [36].

(4) If it is not installed, install the failsafe link [15] on the main flap [2]:
(a) Put the failsafe link [15] in its position on the main flap [2].
NOTE: Make sure the slot on the failsafe link [15] is down.
(b) Install the washer [44], washer [43], and nut [42] to attach the failsafe link [15] to the main
flap [2].
(c) Tighten the nut [42] to 270-300 pound-inches (30.6-33.8 newton-meters).
(d) Install the cotter pin [45] in the nut [42].

(5) Connect the failsafe link [15] to the carriage assembly [1]:
(a) Apply compound, C00528 to the holes in the carriage assembly [1] for the bolt [4].

(b) Install the bolt [4], washer [5], washer [6] and nut [7] that connect the failsafe link [15] to the
carriage assembly [1].
(c) Tighten the nut [7] to 270-300 pound-inches (30.6-33.8 newton-meters).
(d) Install the pin [8] in the nut [7].

(6) Install the leading edge skin panel [33] on the main flap [2] forward of the carriage assembly [1]:
(a) Put the leading edge skin panel [33] in its location on the leading edge of the main flap [2].
(b) Apply compound, C00528 to the holes for the bolts [34].
(c) Install the bolts [34] to attach the leading edge skin panel [33].
(d) Apply sealant, A00247 to fill all of the clearances around the skin panel [33] that are more
than 0.05 inch (1.27 millimeters).

(7) Install the bellcrank assembly [19] on the carriage assembly [1]:
(a) Make sure the bellcrank assembly [19] is the correct length:
NOTE: The length of the bellcrank assembly [19] can be changed to adjust for lateral trim
problems.
1) Measure the distance between the center of the bolt hole in the adjustment fitting [54]
and the bellcrank assembly [19].
NOTE: This distance is referred to as Dimension A.
2) Make sure the Dimension A on the bellcrank assembly [19] you will install is the same
as the bellcrank assembly [19] that you removed.
NOTE: The nominal dimension of the outboard bellcrank assembly [19] is 13.74
inches.
3) If the bellcrank assembly [19] is not the correct length, adjust the bellcrank
assembly [19]:
a) Loosen the nuts [55] on the adjustment fitting [54] until the locking washer [56] is
disengaged from the bellcrank assembly [19].
