(i) Tighten the nuts [89] to 500-550 pound-inches (56.5-62.1 newton-meters) more than the runon
torque.

(2) Connect the ballscrew assembly [62] to the yoke [65] on the transmission assembly [64]:
(a) Turn the ballscrew nut [78] until it is at the forward end of the ballscrew assembly [62].
(b) Apply a layer of grease, D00633 to the mating surfaces of the yoke [65] and the ballscrew
assembly [62].
(c) Put the ballscrew assembly [62] into the yoke [65].
(d) Apply a layer of grease, D00633 to the shank and threads of the bolts [80].
(e) Install the bolts [80], washers [81], washers [82] and nuts [83] to attach the ballscrew
assembly [62] to the yoke [65].
(f) Make sure the ballscrew assembly [62] is installed correctly in the yoke [65]:
1) Turn the transmission assembly [64] until the nut [99] on the U-joint [84] is down.
2) Turn the ballscrew nut [78] until the upstop is 1808 from the upstop [100] on the yoke
[65].
3) If the ball returns [77] on the ballscrew nut [78] are not on the outboard side, change the
position of the ballscrew assembly [62]:
a) Remove the nuts [83], washers [82], washers [81] and bolts [90] that attach the
ballscrew assembly [62] to the yoke [65].
b) Turn the ballscrew assembly [62] 1808 in the yoke [65].
c) Install the bolts [80], washers [81], washers [82] and nuts [83].
(g) Tighten the nuts [83] to 100-120 pound-inches (11.3-13.5 newton-meters) more than the runon
torque.

(3) Connect the ballscrew assembly [62] with the gimbal [72] to the carriage [61]:
(a) Move the gimbal [72] aft on the ballscrew assembly [62] until it is at the downstop.
(b) On transmission No. 2, make sure the ball returns [77] on the ballscrew nut [78] are
outboard and the grease vent is on the lower side.
(c) On transmission No. 7, make sure the ball returns [77] on the ballscrew nut [78] are inboard
and the grease vent is on the lower side.
NOTE: This is the preferred position for maintenance.

(d) Apply grease, D00633 to the inside and outside surfaces of the carriage bushing [73] and
carriage bushing [79].

(e) Lift the outboard flap until the carriage [61] aligns with the gimbal [72].
(f) Install the carriage bushing [73] and carriage bushing [79] to attach the gimbal [72] to the
carriage [61].
(g) Install the bolts [76], washers [75] and nuts [74] to hold the carriage bushing [73] and
carriage bushing [79] in the carriage [61].
(h) Tighten the nuts [74] to 65-75 pound-inches (7.4-8.4 newton-meters) more than the run on
torque.

(4) Connect the aft flap drive rod [66] to the drive rod attach fitting [96]:
(a) Put the drive rod [66] in its position in the attach fitting [96].
(b) Apply a layer of grease, D00633 to the inside of the bushing [92] and the shank of the bolt
[90].
(c) Install the bushing [92], bolt [90] and washer [91] to attach the drive rod [66] to the attach
fitting [96].
(d) Carefully clean the grease, D00633 from the threads of the bolt [90].
(e) Install the washer [93] and nut [94] on the bolt [90].
(f) Tighten the nut [94] to 65-100 pound-inches (7.4-11.3 newton-meters).
(g) Install the pin [95] in the nut [94].

(5) Connect the torque tubes [68] to the transmission assembly [64]:
(a) Apply grease, D00633 to the coupling sleeves [67].
(b) Put the splined couplings [69] in the coupling sleeves [67].
(c) Install the screws [70] to attach the torque tubes [68] to the transmission assembly [64].
(d) Install lockwire on the screws [70].

(6) Lubricate the transmission assembly [64], ballscrew assembly [62] and gimbal [72]. To lubricate
them, do this task: Outboard Flap Inboard Ballscrew and Gimbal Lubrication,
TASK 12-22-51-640-804.

(7) Apply grease, D00633 to the end of the plunger on the torque trip indicator [71] and push it down
around the sides of the plunger.

(8) Make sure the torque trip indicator [71] on the transmission assembly [64] is set.

(9) Do this task: Trailing Edge Flap Drive System Adjustment, TASK 27-51-00-820-802.
