SUBTASK 27-51-41-420-001
(1) Install the transmission assembly [4]:
NOTE: The transmission assembly [4] weighs approximately 50 pounds (23 kilograms).
(a) Apply a thin layer of compound, C00913 to the mating surfaces of the transmission
assembly [4], the transmission attach fitting [3], the drive rod attach fitting [37] and the wire
bracket [26].
(b) Apply a layer of compound, C00913 to the bolt holes in the transmission assembly [4].

(c) Apply a layer of compound, C00913 to the shank and threads of the bolts [27], bolt [38] and
bolt [39].
(d) Carefully lift the transmission assembly [4] to its position on the transmission attach fitting
[3].
(e) Put the drive rod attach fitting [37] in its position on the transmission assembly [4] and
install the bolt [38] and bolt [39] and washers [28] through the lower bolt holes.
(f) Loosely install the washers [29] and nuts [30] on the bolt [38] and bolt [39] to hold the
transmission assembly [4].
(g) Put the wire bracket [26] in its position on the transmission assembly [4].
(h) Install the bolts [27], washers [28], washers [29] and nuts [30] to attach the transmission
assembly [4] and the wire bracket [26].
(i) Tighten the nuts [30] to 500-550 pound-inches (56.5-62.1 newton-meters) more than the runon
torque.

(2) Connect the ballscrew assembly [2] to the yoke [5] on the transmission assembly [4]:
(a) Turn the ballscrew nut [19] until it is at the forward end of the ballscrew assembly [2].
(b) Apply a layer of grease, D00633 to the mating surfaces of the yoke [5] and the ballscrew
assembly [2].
(c) Put the ballscrew assembly [2] into the yoke [5].
(d) Apply a layer of grease, D00633 to the shank and threads of the bolts [21].
(e) Install the bolts [21], washers [22], washers [23] and nuts [24] to attach the ballscrew
assembly [2] to the yoke [5].
(f) Make sure the ballscrew assembly [2] is installed correctly in the yoke [5]:
1) Turn the transmission assembly [4] until the nut [40] on the U-joint [25] is down.
2) Turn the ballscrew nut [19] until the upstop is 1808 from the upstop [41] on the yoke [5].
3) If the ball returns [18] on the ballscrew nut [19] are not on the outboard side, change the
position of the ballscrew assembly [2]:
a) Remove the nuts [24], washers [23], washers [22] and bolts [21] that attach the
ballscrew assembly [2] to the yoke [5].
b) Turn the ballscrew assembly [2] 1808 in the yoke [5].
c) Install the bolts [21], washers [22], washers [23] and nuts [24].
(g) Tighten the nuts [24] to 100-120 pound-inches (11.3-13.5 newton-meters) more than the runon
torque.

(3) Connect the ballscrew assembly [2] with the gimbal [13] to the carriage [1]:
(a) Move the gimbal [13] aft on the ballscrew assembly [2] until it is at the downstop [7].
(b) On transmission No. 1, make sure the ball returns [18] on the ballscrew nut [19] are
outboard and the grease vent is on the lower side.
(c) On transmission No. 8, make sure the ball returns [18] on the ballscrew nut [19] are inboard
