FLAP CONTROL UNIT - REMOVAL/INSTALLATION
1. General
A. This procedure has these tasks:
(1) A removal of the flap control unit
(2) An installation of the flap control unit.
B. The flap control unit includes the flap control valves for the leading edge and the trailing edge, the
control linkage, follow-up linkage, and the flap limit switch cams.
C. The flap limit switches are installed on the flap control unit. It is necessary to remove the flap limit
switches from the flap control unit.

(1) If the trailing edge flaps are not in the retracted position, do this task: Retract the Trailing Edge
Flaps, TASK 27-51-00-860-804.
SUBTASK 27-51-61-860-002
(2) Remove the pressure from the system B hydraulic reservoir. To remove the pressure, do this
task: Hydraulic Reservoirs Depressurization, TASK 29-11-01-860-802 or Hydraulic
Reservoirs Depressurization, TASK 29-09-00-860-802.

(3) Open this circuit breaker and install safety tag:

WARNING: MAKE SURE THE DOWNLOCK PINS ARE INSTALLED ON ALL THE LANDING GEAR.
WITHOUT THE DOWNLOCK PINS, THE LANDING GEAR CAN RETRACT AND CAUSE
INJURIES TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
(4) If the downlock pins are not installed in the nose and main landing gear, do this task: Landing
Gear Downlock Pins Installation, TASK 32-00-01-480-801.

(5) Remove the floor panel to get access to the top of the flap control unit assembly [9], do this task:
Passenger Cabin Floor Panel Removal, TASK 53-21-00-000-801
(Figure 401).
NOTE: The floor panel is located between stations 706 and 727B on the right side of the
airplane.
E. Flap Control Unit Removal
SUBTASK 27-51-61-020-001
(1) Disconnect the cable assembly [1], WFA and WFB from the quadrant [5]:
(a) To get access to the turnbuckles [3], do this task:

(b) Remove the locking clips [2] and loosen the turnbuckles [3] on the cable assembly [1].
(c) Remove the pin [8], pin [6] and the two spacers [7] from the quadrant [5].
(d) Remove the straps [10] that attach the cable assembly [1] to the quadrant [5].
(e) Remove the pins [4] that attach the cable assembly [1] to the quadrant [5].
(f) Remove the cable assembly [1] from the quadrant [5].

(2) Remove the quadrant [5] from the flap control unit assembly [9]:
(a) Remove the nut [11] and washer [17] that attach the quadrant [5] to the flap control unit
assembly [9].
(b) Remove the quadrant [5] from the flap control unit assembly [9].
