(1) Extend the trailing edge flaps to the 40-unit position. To extend them, do this task: Extend the
Trailing Edge Flaps, TASK 27-51-00-860-803.

(2) Do this task: Trailing Edge Flap System Deactivation, TASK 27-51-00-040-801.

(3) Do this task: Outboard Flap Inboard Support Aft Fairing Removal, TASK 27-51-28-000-804.
E. Outboard Flap Inboard Transmission Removal
SUBTASK 27-51-41-980-002
(1) Manually extend the trailing edge flaps to the downstop on the ballscrew. To extend them, do
this task: Trailing Edge Flap System Manual Operation, TASK 27-51-00-980-801.
SUBTASK 27-51-41-020-007
(2) Disconnect the torque tubes [68] from the transmission assembly [64]:
(a) Remove the screws [70] that attach the coupling sleeves [67] to the splined couplings [69]
on the torque tubes [68].
(b) Move the coupling sleeves [67] off the splined couplings [69].

(3) Disconnect the aft flap drive rod [66] from the drive rod attach fitting [96]:
(a) Remove the nut [94], washer [93], washer [91], bolt [90] and bushing [92] that attach the
drive rod [66] to the attach fitting [96].
(b) Move the drive rod [66] away from the attach fitting [96].

CAUTION: MAKE SURE YOU HOLD THE BALLSCREW WHILE YOU DISCONNECT IT. IF YOU LET
THE U-JOINT HOLD THE BALLSCREW, YOU WILL CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE U-JOINT.
(4) Disconnect the ballscrew assembly [62] with the gimbal [72] from the carriage [61]:
NOTE: When you disconnect the ballscrew assembly [62] from the carriage [61], the outboard
flap can move a small distance to the downstop on the flap track.
(a) Remove the nut [74], washer [75] and bolt [76] from the carriage [61].
(b) Remove the inboard carriage bushing [79] and outboard carriage bushing [73] from the
gimbal [72] and the carriage [61].
(c) Move the ballscrew assembly [62] and gimbal away from the carriage [61].

(5) Disconnect the ballscrew assembly [62] from the yoke [65] on the transmission assembly [64]:
(a) Remove the nuts [83], washers [82], washers [81] and bolts [80] that attach the ballscrew
assembly [62] to the yoke [65].
(b) Remove the ballscrew assembly [62] from the yoke [65].
NOTE: You can turn the ballscrew assembly [62] and the gimbal [72] to get access to
remove the ballscrew assembly [62].

(c) Remove the ballscrew assembly [62] with the gimbal [72].

(6) Remove the transmission assembly [64]:
NOTE: The transmission assembly [64] weighs approximately 50 pounds (23 kilograms).
(a) Support the transmission assembly [64] while you disconnect it from the transmission
attach fitting [63].
(b) Remove the nuts [89] and washers [88] that attach the transmission assembly [64] to the
transmission attach fitting [63].
(c) Remove the upper bolts [86] and washers [87] that attach the wire bracket [85] and the
transmission assembly [64].
(d) Move the wire bracket [85] with the wires away from the transmission assembly [64].
(e) Remove the lower bolt [97] and bolt [98] and washers [87] that attach the drive rod attach
fitting [96] and the transmission assembly [64].
(f) Carefully lower the transmission assembly [64].
