F. Outboard Flap Inboard Carriage Installation
SUBTASK 27-51-23-020-016
(1) If it is installed, remove the aft link assembly [103] from the carriage assembly [71].
(a) Remove the nut [120], washer [119], bushing [118], washer [117] and bolt [116] that attach
the aft link assembly [103] to the aft link fitting assembly [115].

(2) If it is not installed, install the aft link fitting assembly [115] on the carriage assembly [71]:
(a) Apply sealant, A00247 to the mating surfaces of the shims [114].
(b) Put the shims [114] in their location between the aft link fitting assembly [115] and the
carriage assembly [71].
NOTE: Use the same thickness of shims [114] that you removed. The maximum total
thickness of the shims [114] is 0.50 inch (12.7 mm). The minimum total thickness of
the shims [114] is 0.00 inch (0.0 mm).
(c) Apply compound, C00913 to the shank and threads of the bolts [111].
(d) Install the bolts [111], washers [112] and nuts [113] to attach the aft link fitting assembly [115]
to the carriage assembly [71].

(3) Install the outboard carriage assembly [71] on the main flap [2]:
(a) Put the carriage assembly [71] in its location on the main flap [2], with the forward spindle
through the forward bearing [102].
(b) Install the washer [98] and nut [97] to attach the forward end of the carriage assembly [71]
to the main flap [2].
(c) Tighten the nut [97] to 500-700 pound-inches (56.5-79.0 newton-meters).
(d) Install the pin [99] in the nut [97].
(e) Install the aft link assembly [103] on the main flap [2] and the aft link fitting assembly [115]:
1) Put the aft link assembly [103] in its position on the main flap [2].
NOTE: Make sure the lubrication fittings on the aft link assembly [103] are on the aft
side.
2) Install the bolt [116], washer [117], bushing [118], washer [119] and nut [120] that attach
the aft link assembly [103] to the aft link fitting assembly [115].
3) Install the pin [121] in the nut [120].
4) Install the washer [105] and nut [104] that attach the aft link assembly [103] to the main
flap [2].
5) Tighten the nut [104] to 1000-1300 pound-inches (113.0-146.8 newton-meters).
6) Install the pin [106] in the nut [104].

(4) If it is not installed, install the failsafe link [83] on the main flap [2]:
(a) Put the failsafe link [83] in its position on the main flap [2].
NOTE: Make sure the slot on the failsafe link [83] is up.
(b) Install the washer [109], washer [108] and nut [107] to attach the failsafe link [83] to the main
flap [2].
(c) Tighten the nut [107] to 270-300 pound-inches (30.5-33.8 newton-meters).
(d) Install the pin [110] in the nut [107].

(5) Connect the failsafe link [83] to the carriage assembly [71]:
(a) Apply compound, C00528 to the holes in the carriage assembly [71] for the bolt [72].

(b) Install the bolt [72], washer [73], washer [74] and nut [75] that connect the failsafe link [83] to
the carriage assembly [71].
NOTE: Bolt direction is optional; bolt head forward is preferred.
(c) Tighten the nut [75] to 270-300 pound-inches (30.5-33.8 newton-meters).
(d) Install the pin [76] in the nut [75].

(6) Install the leading edge skin panel [100] on the main flap [2] forward of the carriage
assembly [71]:
(a) Put the leading edge skin panel [100] in its location on the leading edge of the main flap [2].
(b) Apply compound, C00528 to the holes for the bolts [101].
(c) Install the bolts [101] to attach the leading edge skin panel [100].
(d) Apply sealant, A00247 to fill all of the clearances around the leading edge skin panel [100]
that are more than 0.05 inch (1.3 millimeters).

(7) Install the bellcrank assembly [85] on the carriage assembly [71]:
(a) Make sure the bellcrank assembly [85] is the correct length:
NOTE: The length of the bellcrank assembly [85] can be changed to adjust for lateral trim
problems.
1) Measure the distance between the center of the bolt hole in the adjustment fitting [122]
and the bellcrank assembly [85].
NOTE: This distance is referred to as Dimension A.
